Company History
Decades of Expertise in Freight Claims Management
Founded in 1932 on Fenkell Road in Detroit, Michigan, Fenkell Automotive Services began by replacing and restoring storefront flat glass. As Detroit rose to become the auto capital of the world, we quickly shifted our focus to the automotive industry, providing flat glass solutions for vehicles.
Over the years, we built a reputation for reliable auto expertise and quality repairs. By the mid-1970s, we were working with auto dealers across the Detroit area on glass projects. Soon after, manufacturers were inviting us to expand into tire, battery, and general vehicle repairs.
Growing Expertise in In-Transit Repairs
By the 1980s, we were managing mobile vehicle repairs for in-transit damage at storage yards. We became experts in diagnosing, repairing, and readying vehicles while they were in transit, ensuring manufacturers could rely on our services to keep operations on schedule.
In the early 1990s, we launched a nationwide mobile vehicle repair program for in-transit damage that covers the U.S. and Canada. Our clients benefit from faster turnaround times, consistent quality, and fewer disruptions in the logistics process.

Innovative Fleet Accident Management
In 1998, we developed Vehi-Trac®, a web-based claims management and tracking system. This industry-first solution gives manufacturers real-time visibility into every repair and claim, making the process more transparent, efficient, and cost-effective.
Vehi-Trac® isn’t just technology. It’s a tool that helps us help our clients:
- Track repairs and claims in real time.
- Make informed decisions quickly.
- Reduce costs and minimize delays.
- Improve accountability with vendors and partners.
This platform has become a core part of how we support large-scale automotive and logistics operations, helping teams stay aligned across multiple locations and time zones.
Today, this same system also supports modern fleet accident management by helping manufacturers coordinate repairs, monitor performance trends, and maintain control over high-volume vehicle movement and in-transit damage across large distribution networks.
Our team also supports freight claims management for logistics partners so your damage documentation, claim filing, and reimbursement tracking are handled efficiently and consistently across all shipments.
Continued Commitment to the Industry
From our humble beginnings in glass replacement to leading the in-transit vehicle repair industry and claims management, Fenkell has always focused on one thing: making vehicle repair and logistics easier, faster, and more reliable for our clients.
Our commitment extends beyond individual repairs, supporting broader operational goals such as reduced downtime, improved vendor accountability, and stronger coordination across logistics networks.
As industry demands continue to grow, we remain focused on evolving our services to meet the needs of manufacturers and carriers who require speed, accuracy, and full visibility across every transaction.
